Betting rules

How bets are settled. These rules apply to every bet unless something different was agreed in writing at the time.

1Prices are struck when accepted

The price that stands is the price shown at the moment your bet is accepted, not the price displayed when you opened the page. If the market has moved between those two moments, the bet is rejected and the new price offered — it is never placed at a price you did not see.

Every accepted bet records the price struck and the state of the market at that instant.

2Scratchings and deductions

If a runner is scratched after your bet is accepted, the field is smaller than it was when the price was agreed and every remaining runner is more likely to win. A deduction is taken from winnings to correct for that.

The deduction is set by the scratched runner's last available price: a runner scratched at $5.00 carried an implied 20% chance, so 20c in the dollar comes off winnings. Deductions are capped at 90c. Multiple scratchings accumulate.

Your stake is never reduced. Deductions apply to winnings only.

Bets accepted after a scratching are unaffected — that price already reflected the smaller field.

Example

$100 at $4.00 = $300 winnings. A rival scratched at $5.00 carries a 20c deduction. Winnings become $300 × 0.80 = $240. Total return $340.

3Dead heats

Where runners tie for a placing, the stake is divided by the number of runners dead-heating. The divided portion wins at full odds; the remainder is lost.

Example

$100 at $6.00 in a two-way dead heat for first: $50 wins at $6.00 returning $300, $50 is lost. Total return $300.

4Place terms

Places paid are set by the number of runners at the jump:

  • Fewer than 5 runners — no place market
  • 5 to 7 runners — 2 places
  • 8 or more runners — 3 places

Place terms are fixed when the bet is accepted. If scratchings later reduce the field below the threshold, place bets on that race are voided and stakes returned in full.

5Multis

Every leg must win. The price is the product of the leg prices. A void or refunded leg is treated as a price of $1.00 and the multi is recalculated on the remaining legs.

Selections that cannot all win — two runners in the same race, both sides of a head-to-head, or win and place on the same runner — cannot be combined into a multi. They can be placed as singles.

Multis are priced by a trader before they stand.

6SP and unpriced markets

Where no fixed price is available, a market is marked SP and settles at starting price. If no starting price is returned, the bet is voided and the stake refunded.

7Abandoned, postponed and voided events

If an event is abandoned or does not start within 48 hours of its advertised time, open bets on it are voided and stakes returned. Bets on events that have been decided stand.

Where an event is run under materially different conditions to those advertised — a changed distance, surface or venue — bets may be voided at our discretion.

8Obvious errors

A price that is plainly wrong — a decimal in the wrong place, a stale price on a market that has already been decided, a technical fault — may be voided and the stake returned, whether or not the bet has already been settled.

This is not a licence to void losing positions. It applies to errors that would be obvious to any reasonable person at the time, and every use of it is logged with a reason.

9Settlement and disputes

Bets are settled on the official result at the time of settlement. Subsequent protests, disqualifications or amendments do not change a settled bet unless the official result is amended within 48 hours.

Every bet, price, ledger movement and settlement is recorded and cannot be edited — corrections are made by a reversing entry that leaves the original visible. If you dispute a settlement, that record is what we will both look at.

10Limits

Stake and liability limits apply per account and per market. A bet above your automatic limit is not rejected — it is sent to a trader, who will accept, reduce or decline it.

We may decline any bet, in whole or in part, without giving a reason.
